Transceivers are important components of network cards and switches that transmit and receive signals (feed and decouple) that are exchanged over copper, fiber optic cables and electromagnetic waves. Transceivers are also referred to as Medium Access Units (MAUs), which are commonly integrated with the AUI (Attachment Unit Interface) directly on the network cards.
10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE, 10GbE or 10 GigE) refers to an Ethernet variant with a transfer rate of 10 Gbps. Possible cabling types (Device – Device (direct), Device – Switch - Device) and general functionality of 1GbE, 10GbE and other Ethernet standards do not differ.
