The PoC shows which advantages desktop virtualization offers. A PoC is basically a feasibility study to prove the feasibility of a project. It is a risk-mitigating measure that can validate the solution concept at a very early stage.

Accordingly, a PoC is recommended before the start of implementation in order to ideally confirm the concept and, if necessary, uncover risks that should be taken into account in the future. Another side effect of PoC is the possibility to learn in advance about the actual benefits and simplifications that the planned solution will bring. After the initial meeting and the inventory of the IT environment as well as the definition of the objectives, the PoC can be implemented on site within 1 week under ideal conditions. This allows you to evaluate initial results cost-effectively and quickly. If you decide for the cloud solution in our secure data center in Bremen, this can be realized within one working day. During the PoC phase, our experts will be at your side.

This is followed by the actual development and implementation of the PoC with timely results for improving the strategy and adapting it to your technical ideas. Here, our experts proceed according to the following pattern:

The next step is to discuss and define the solution architecture. Furthermore, the specification of the necessary infrastructure for the PoC takes place. In doing so, we work closely with your IT and try to use hardware and in-house standards that are already available to you. In addition to determining the technical feasibility, we also review the PoC from a business perspective.

We distinguish between two PoC options here:

Option 1: Setting up the infrastructure in your accounting department on site and integrating it into your IT environment within 1 week.

Option 2: Hosting in our state-of-the-art, secure data center in Bremen within 1 day. This offers many advantages such as saving time, money and effort as well as faster results. However, for existing developed data to be built upon, a prior data transfer is necessary!

PROFESSIONAL USE:

Although the results of the PoC are already being tested and used during development, the actual phase of testing will now follow. Here, we primarily want to prove the business benefits of desktop virtualization. During this phase, changes and improvements will be made. This includes the expansion of further process paths and the extension of core operations and algorithms.

FINAL REVIEW:

The PoC concludes with a joint review meeting at which we compile and evaluate the technical and professional experience. We record the result in a joint final document.

AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE POC'S:

If you decide to purchase the virtualization solution after the PoC, you have the enormous advantage that the implementation effort and the onboarding have already taken place. An implementation according to our individual offer is therefore possible without any time delay - without any surprises.

Should you decide not to proceed with virtualization, you will have a detailed and valid record of your current IT infrastructure after the PoC and could gain valuable insights for the implementation of a virtualization project.

AutoCad is still mainly used as a professional 2D drawing program. The extension AutoCAD Mechanical for mechanical engineering offers many additional industry-specific tools and standard libraries. The simplified version AutoCAD LT does without the 3D functions, but is fast and inexpensive. AutoCAD can be ordered directly from Autodesk's online store.

Dessault Systems

The Catia software from the French manufacturer Dassault Systemes is one of the leading and most comprehensive 3D CAD systems on the market. With the full range of functions of Catia, the entire product development cycle can be covered. Catia thus sees itself as a fully-fledged PLM solution. Originally developed for aircraft construction, it is also used primarily in vehicle construction, as well as in mechanical and plant engineering because of its powerful specific tools.

The well-known and widely used CAD software Pro/ENGINEER has been continued by the manufacturer PTC for several years under the name Creo. Creo is a professional and thus high-priced software package that is composed of many specific modules. The basic package for 2D and 3D design includes powerful tools for free-form surface modeling, weldment and sheet metal part design, in addition to the standard solid design, assembly and drawing tools. The basic package can be extended with modules such as Piping, Cabling Desgin, FEM tools or a PDM solution Windchill according to your own requirements.

NX is an established program package in the professional environment for CAD, CAM and CAE. It is a powerful system that covers the entire product life cycle. It offers a uniform platform for product development with solutions for development, design, simulation and manufacturing. Specific modules and functions exist for almost every industry, for example, to simplify and accelerate the design and simulation process.

Especially for the hobby and do-it-yourself sector, 3D DesignCAD is an option. For a low initial cost, users are enabled to design in 2D and 3D. The program offers the usual tools to create designs. Toolkits are available for carpentry/joinery, mechanical engineering and architecture. CAD beginners should be satisfied with the penultimate generation DesignCAD, which is available free of charge.

With its various program packages, the Allplan software is aimed at architects and planners on the one hand and engineering and planning offices as well as building contractors on the other. In addition to the practical creation and visualization of building models, Allplan offers numerous functions to ensure cost transparency throughout the entire planning and project process.

As the name of the software suggests, Archicad is primarily aimed at architects and civil engineers. With the new version, the scope of libraries in particular has grown significantly, containing countless models from different areas. As an additional module, the EcoDesigner offers the possibility of recalculating the energy requirements of a design. Free versions of Archicad are offered for pupils, students and educational institutions.

AutoQ3D sees itself as a very inexpensive and simplified version of AutoCAD. This is shown, for example, in the fact that the commands are very close to those of AutoCAD. Designs are possible in 2D and in 3D. Getting started is quick and easy. The hardware requirements are comparatively low.

BricsCAD is a powerful CAD software platform that combines the usual functions, advanced 2D tools and an intelligent 3D modeler. The very good compatibility with AutoCAD is particularly noteworthy. BricsCAD is positioned in the mid-price segment and is available for Windows and Linux.

The FreeCAD software is developed open source and licensed under the GPL or the LGPL. The use is therefore free of charge for private and commercial purposes. FreeCAD is mainly focused on mechanical engineering, but also on product design. It should be emphasized that a Python interface allows parametric design of objects. So far FreeCAD is not particularly rich in features, but the development process is progressing rapidly.

CAD Schroer GmbH offers Medusa4 Personal free of charge for non-commercial use. The 2D/3D design system is available for Windows and Linux.

MegaCAD is a 2D/3D software for free design without restrictions. The program combines the advantages of parametric, history-based modeling with the user-friendliness of a direct, history-free modeling approach. MegaCAD is used primarily in the fields of mechanical engineering, special machine construction, and sheet metal and metal processing. MegaCAD also offers suitable tools for architects and civil engineers.
